The retail draw was started by IKEA in 1994; with the Renton store still the only IKEA in Washington State. The huge electronics store, Fry's, is also here, as well as a Boeing facility and PACCAR. In addition to the revitalized downtown area and various retail shopping centers, in the South Lake Washington neighborhood you can also find a newer development with retail, restaurant and entertainment space called The Landing. Major businesses that have felt the attraction of Renton include a branch of the Federal Aviation Administration and a branch of the Federal Reserve Bank. These businesses alone make up a great portion of the employment in the city.

Renton is situated on the southeastern shore of Lake Washington, in view of Mount Rainier, The Olympics and the Cascade Mountains, making it a gorgeous city from which to look at natural beauty. With several beaches to explore during the summer months on the lakeside, and water for fishing and boating year round, and plenty of parks to explore and play in, it's a great place to live. With so many resources to choose from, you have things to do outdoors and get away from your Renton apartment occasionally.

A side note about Renton is that it is the burial site of Jimi Hendrix. Born in Seattle, he was brought back to the US after his death in London. The gravestone with an engraving of a Fender Stratocaster guitar on the headstone is at Greenwood Memorial Park.
